Why did you do MITF?
I chose to do MITF because I wanted to immerse myself in Israeli culture whilst helping students with their English and exposing them to my Mexican and American heritage. I also wanted to get away from my monotonous lifestyle back home, and MITF definitely added spontaneity and fun in my everyday life!
How was your experience?
My experience was life-changing. I made life-long friendships with my co-workers and co-fellows, saw positive changes in my kids’ education, and had experiences that I would have never had if I had stayed home such as learning Hebrew and traveling Europe.
What do you do now?
Today, I work for the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston as their Young Adult Division event coordinator. My experience in MITF paved way for me to do this rewarding and exciting job. I get to meet young Jewish people every day and tell them about Israel, about my experiences, and about how important it is to keep our Jewish community engaged and thriving. I wouldn’t change that year in Israel for anything in the world, because it made me who I am today. Everyone should become an MITF fellow!
